EAGALA: Equine Assisted Growth & Learning

Animals & Kids is proud to offer EAGALA-model sessions, a globally recognized, evidence-based approach that pairs a licensed mental health professional with a certified equine specialist for ground-based experiential work.

All Ground-Based, No Riding Required

Clients interact with horses through leading, grooming, and groundwork exercises, then process their thoughts, feelings, and patterns with the licensed mental health professional present in every session. No prior horse experience is needed.

A Certified Two-Professional Team

Every session is led by both a licensed mental health professional and a certified equine specialist, so each client receives clinical support and expert equine guidance at the same time.

How an EAGALA Session Works

  1. Client arrives at the arena. No riding gear needed, just comfortable clothes.
  2. The equine specialist introduces the horses and guides ground interactions (leading, grooming, groundwork).
  3. The licensed mental health professional observes, facilitates reflection, and helps process emerging thoughts and patterns.
  4. About 1 hour total. The session closes with grounding reflection and next-step goal setting.

EAGALA Effectively Supports

  • Trauma & PTSD
  • Anxiety & Depression
  • Behavioral Challenges
  • Addiction Recovery
  • Family Dynamics
  • Social Skills
  • ADHD
  • Grief & Loss

Formally Certified & Evidence-Based

EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) is one of the most widely recognized certifying bodies in equine-assisted mental health worldwide. Practitioners complete rigorous training and continuing education every two years to maintain certification.
